As social bookmarking get widely popular and became a mojor source of traffic for sites with interesting content, spam also became an important issue. Social bookmarking sites are spammed heavily by users looking to generate traffic to their sites.

Social bookmarking did not get as popular in the rest of the world as it did in the English speaking countries according to several internet marketers. I believe this is likely to change with increasing content and problems with managing resources.

Social bookmaring sites like digg and delicious have exptensive traffic and any site or page that makes it to the homepage of such sites is likely to receive many visitors referred by these sites. The voting system helps with promoting content that is liked by other users and the logic here is that any content that is promoted heavily by other users tend to be interesting to other users as well.

I suggest using plug-ins that will allow your visitors to easily promote your content and articles to such bookmarkign sites. A basic Google search will allow you to find lists of social bookmarking sites and it is possible to submit in bulk quantities to most of these sites. But, do not forget that uninteresting content is not likely to spark any interest and voting such content to fool algorithms is spamming.
